There are many pictures in this gallery. Some were taken by me, some by my mother, father, and sister… They are roughly in chronological order:

My new laptop

Posted by jlopatin on 12th February 2007

Due to various reasons, the time came for me to replace my ailing desktop PC. I decided that my hand built, liquid-cooled behemoth was a dinosaur; It was time to move to something more portable…

I had a few requirements:

1) It must be powerful enough for my audio/video editing needs
2) It must be portable enough for me to carry around.
3) It must be have decent battery life.

This was a tricky order to fill because it also had to be affordable. After much searching, and even more deliberating, I decided to get an Apple laptop. I’m sure that this decision surprises many. I must admit that I felt “dirty” when I clicked the order button on Apple’s website. I never thought I would become an Apple convert.

The fact is that comparing price to performance, Apple is the winner by far in today’s laptop market. It is a very powerful computer. And it is portable.

The best part is that I didn’t have to make a complete switch… Now that Apple machines use Intel processors, I am able to run Windows on it. I can switch back and forth quickly between the Mac OS, and Windows. It is great!

My MacBook Pro is well built, and nice looking. It has all sorts of fancy little touches that I thought silly before using it. If you are in an area with dim lighting, the keyboard lights up. This happens automatically. It is very cool. There is a built in webcam. It has wireless and bluetooth, and a 15inch wide screen!

It has only been a week so far, but I am really enjoying the Mac OS. I am still doing all my AV work in Windows, but day to day stuff happens in Macsville.

Only time will tell if it has the staying power… We’ll see what happens!
