In Loving Memory- The Starchild
We said goodbye to The Starchild this evening. She was a force of nature. This is one of my favorite pictures of her. I always joked it was her happy face.
We adopted Star in February, 2023. She came to us full of health issues, and a lot of attitude. Unfortunately love can’t fix everything. Her name became The Starchild, since she was clearly wearing KISS makeup.
And we did give her all the love she ever wanted. Her first 15 years were not lived under the best circumstances, but when we decided she needed to come live with us, unconditional love was given on both sides.
She didn’t always get along with her brothers, but she loved them too. She always wanted to play with them, but the size difference, and her tornado like persona complicated things. Joey was very patient with her, Ichabod loved to sneak in and snuggle next to her, but only when he thought she was fast asleep. Johnny and Star had quite a sibling rivalry. They’re all going to feel her loss.
She was quite the character. She loved squeaking toys and even though walking was difficult for her, she would race around the house like a bunny, squeezing her favorites. Her face had a perpetual sad look, but her bright eyes told a different story.
She loved Aim and I equally, but at some point decided that I was “her human”. She needed to be in the same room with me, or at least know where I was at all times. She was always content to snuggle up next to me while I played video games, or sit by my chair watching me work.
We’ve been down this road before, but with The Starchild, we experienced some challenges that we never expected. Her medical issues made life very complicated for all of us. No regrets. She was a very special girl and I’ll always be thankful she chose to share her last year loving us.
Star, we love you. Feel no more pain, and rest easy sweet princess.
