New Gallery- C2E2
I spent the better part of today at the C2E2 convention. It was fun, but I was a little disappointed because there weren’t very many people in costumes. I was expecting to take a ton of pictures, but I didn’t really get many.
Today I tried shooting in RAW mode exclusively for the first time. This was not very successful. I was using my newer E-PL1 camera with a 20mm f1.7 lens. I had it in full auto, thinking that I was going to be taking snapshots, so I didn’t need to muck about with settings. Here is the problem: It was set to auto ISO. This setting is biased for a lower ISO, which meant that I was shooting with the lens wide open all the time… An f1.7 lens has REALLY shallow depth of field, and also isn’t at it’s sharpest at f1.7… If I had set the camera to use a higher ISO, but left all other settings auto, the camera would have stopped down the lens, and the pictures would have come out sharper.
Oh well! Not all experiments are successful.
I also need to learn how to adjust my workflow when dealing with RAW images. I’ll have to get some more practice!
