Nintendo Wii

I read an interesting article about the new Nintendo Wii. When they announced the first details on this new console, I was skeptical. It all seemed so silly! However, after reading this (and other) articles, I am starting to get interested.

I have been a gamer for many years. I prefer console gaming. I am very picky about my controller. The idea of swinging a stick around in real space to control my onscreen actions seems absurd! I am liking the idea of getting off the couch. The game ideas seem really fun. Imaging swinging your arm to control an onscreen sword, or moving your body to avoid oncoming threats… We shall have to see.

 One thing that seems to concern people is the name “Wii”. The console was originally titled “Revolution,” which sounds like a traditional gaming console. Wii? What the heck is that? the 2 “i”s in Wii are supposed to represent people. Nintendo’s idea is for more people to game together. It still sounds silly to me, but I like the idea. Even my wife is intrigued! She has traditionally been an anti-gamer, but perhaps this is what she needs to change her mind!
